I use gun oil on clean threads before I put the thread protector back on,the gunsmith said to use grease, but I was sure this would harbour bits of grit! So I went for oil instead! What do other people use?
i use molyncote grease (spelt something like that) its what divers use on the gear, i used it on my o rings on my bsa superten pcp airgun a few years ago and still have a tube left. its high temp stuff that doesnt melt.

one of the problems is that most lubricants are di-electric positive and attract dirt through static. You need a di-electric negative lubricant.

I used to use silicone grease for my SCUBA diving equipment and am looking for something for my scope turrets. Would silicone grease be OK? Thanks, Paul
