Remington 700 SPS Stainless .223, Looking for Loads ect

    Hi Folk's

Picking up Remington 700 SPS .223 {stainless} tomorrow.
    It,s a 1/12 twist, 24" barrel with Mod fitted.

What would be the best weight of bullet for that rating?

I have been told between 40gr-55gr? and going by what i have read 52gr or 55gr is looking good.
I will be shooting Roes and Foxes.

Will buy 1 box of each, any thought of make of ammo?

    any help is appreciated.

52 grain A - max, over 24.8 grains N133,........... or substitute Berger hollow points.

Those A-maxes should be hell on wheels on the foxes but I would be careful on the roe as I have found them rather frangible to say the least. Try them on a 100% broadside shot at first and not too close if you can help it.

I hear that the 63 gr hornady soft is very reliable in the 223 from Scottish friends and that it stabilises in a 1-12 barrel to boot.

Cheer's GH, will try 63gr soft points.

I will be trying out a few makes over the next few weeks, then will reload when i find the ammo the rifle likes, weights ect.
just putting feeler's out for some results.

For Roe I would try sako 55gr soft point factory ammo. They were designed for roe.
I found 52gr nos custom match better than 52gr a-max, more consistant on paper and fox.

    Hi

I shoot 223 with 55grn Vmax and 55grn Sierra Gamekings. The powder i use is Varget 27.0 grn which is near the top end.
Remington Bench Rest primers. Acurracy is excellent and Roe go down with either bullet no problem at all.

If you are using factory ammo i had reasonable success with Federal 55grns but in truth my rifle didnt really group that well until i loaded my own. I tried about 3 other factory loads but none really satisfactory results.

That is of course one rifle one person. You just never know.
