Thread: .222 magnum

    .222 magnum

Just secured myself a mannlicher half stock in said calibre.
Its built on a short action and will make a nice recon rifle for walking the woods (just in case I see any foxes or other vermin which might need to be gathered.
Will also be ok for legal deer.
It comes with rings, ammo, dies, cases and factory ammo.
    What do ya think??
And any loads for it would be welcomed.
My renewal went in today so i've added it to that.

John, I think it is a cracking rifle and round. I believe it was Lea McNally's choice prior to the deer act introducing minimum calibres for the larger deer.

There should be plenty of load data out there, if you are struggling, start with 223 loads and work up. I seriously doubt you can get enough Benchmark in the case to cause trouble.

Brass is rare, but you can resize 204Ruger if necessary.

Amazed you didn't know it was not legal for deer in the "UK".....
    Brian.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you......

just read the post again it doesn't read how i planned.
    I've amended it thanks.
What i meant is scotland is in the uk and it is legal for roe IN scotland.
I have plenty of reloading books but wondered if anyone out there had any pet loads.

John, sorry, I knew damn well that you undestood the limitations. I was rolling the eyes at you being corrected. We seem to have a bunch on this forum who are more than a little pedantic and must lie in wait looking for opportunities to demonstrate what they learned on DSC1 3 months ago....

Agreed but they didn't learn it very well. He did ask to be corrected.
And a geography lesson might not go amiss.
    LOL
No offence meant just a (Quiet) giggle.

I had never heard of the .222 Magnum, but after having a quick search on the web you look to have found yourself an interesting item. Midway still do the cases too!

Please post results of your trial with this rifle/calibre, it should be fascinating.

    well i've got it.
the scope is too big for the rifle IMHO I want a smaller quality scope around 3-9 or 2-10 x 42
    so i will sell on the S+B 8x56 (h).
