    30-06 powder

Going to start reloading for the 30-06, have n140 and n160, would either do or would i be better off getting a different powder from the offset. I would rather get a suitable powder than 'make do'.

    Thanks steve

I M H O you have an ideal pair of powders for .30-06

Vihtavouri N140 and 150grain bullets works very nicely and the N160 is excellent for 180 grainers.

For instance I use just over 50grains of N140 behind Hornady 150grain flat base soft points to get a very useful 2850 fps M.V. out of my rifle that can print cloverleafs at 100m.

If you feel like doing something a bit extra, you could also try N550 behind those 150grainers and get Magnumesque velocities, but I wouldn't recommend that for barrel life and the deer certainly don't get any deader, just more messed up.

    Thanks Tamus

Any body else got a view?

Tamus is spot on but you could try Varget, 48.5 grns behind a 150 grn bullet works very well in my rifle less than 1 inch groups at 100 yrds.
    Tusker

Agree with both previous posters. I use a little more Varget than Tusker but find both Vit 140 and Varget good performance.

H4350 is recommended by many for the 06, but not tried it myself.

    Cheers

I like 4350 for heavier bullets. My old match load was a H-4895 under a 165 grain HP. Excellent.~Muir
