    Groundwork and preparation

Just out of interest how many of the members put significant preparation into the land they stalk? For example... you might brash access paths through thicket areas to quietly access 'hotspots'? If permanant highseats are used, are the sight lines improved etc?

Most folks will enhance the areas to a certain degree but this may also depend on how long they have shot over the land or indeed what kind of terms/agreement they have with the landowner?

    Hi Jamba

On one of my permissions we spend two weekends a year doing prep’ work, one weekend before the start of the doe season and one before the start of the buck season. We cut “Tunnels” though the sika spruce to access clearings for other directions, brash back the over hanging branches on area’s covered with high seats, put up new seats/doe boxes etc.

I have done lots of work some times looking at what you have and asking your self how can i improve it is the answer. If you are trying to encourage deer then cut back the willow hawthorn pull down the ivy plant some protective trees like pines for the winter before you know it you got a place thats like a deer magnet. If you want to cull as many as you see then similar to the last but make sure you are ready to take advantage of the deer that arrive straight away.
