    Ruddy Duck

I found this earlier and thought it might be of interest. Its not stalking but does illustrate how shooting and conversation work together in the management of wildlife

Do I not recall there was a bit of an uproar over this when it was first introduced, something about to do with the cost per duck culled as it was only to be done by Government sponsored guns, even though local wildfowling clubs had offered to do it free of charge. If it is the case then it would appear to me to be more of the mismanagement of funds by the Government, they do show consistency in some things IMHO.

    There was uproar john.
Odd now that the spanish population is safe, its only when the ruddy things go to benidorm on hols that they have to worry following a common sense ( although needlessly expensive ) decision

protection of native species called on by the culling selected 'target species'...hmmmm !!!

Q; who are the unsung people who produce the greatest bio-diversity in the countryside, this by culling selected 'target species' (statistical case ref- the langholm estate) whether it's fauna or flora ??? Not the rspb that's for sure 100%

a feather in the cap for double standards them answering the calling for a cull me'thinks

hypothetical situation - now then mr swift, about these hen harriers. Do we cull the foxes, ravens, buzzards or what ????? "oh no" they say "it will effect our charitable funding". "we're not in favour of culling these innocents" (well, publically anyhoooo !!! ) privately (allegedly) some know differently ?????????????????????????

Which begs the question : Are we (as totally separate groups) actually that different. Do they actually understand that 'selected culling' is an important conservation tool.....of course they do.

The o n l y difference is, we don't beg public money for our funding !

We fund ourselves. We are what we are, warts and all

    they, are not !

So who are the true ethical custodians of our great land ?

Answers on a post card to slimbridge (where of course fur and feather live in total fluffy pink harmony - allegedly !)

    rant over

How much has gone to the bustard project ? this bird has been gone from our shores for how long ? We have low populations of birds such as capers and black grouse who could be helped far more easier by popping over to scandinavia catching a few and setting up captive breeding programs to release the surplus offspring , might even create few more jobs into the deal

putting a bounty on them would lead to some folk leaving a breeding population instead of killing off the squirrel that laid the golden egg , so to speak , better the goverment employed squirrel control officers and subsidided the price of warfarine for keepers to use
