    Remington 700 ,308

Need a bit advise on reloading loads.I have always shot with 243 and have taken a while to get the right powder and bullet choice that I am happy with. Before I go mad and buy powder and heads I would like some advise on anyone who loads for a 308 Remington 700.I shoot on a mixed of Roe and Red.

I shoot deer with 308, using nosler BT 125GN and 150gn Speer SP with Varget powder. What works for me may not work for you as your barrel length and twist rate may differ.

No real mystery internet is full of info.

Your right the internet is good, problem with Remington it is a popular rifle so you get many differing answers.I thought I could narrow it down on the stalking directory.Varmint Barrel,26".Thanks for the reply.

I had a friend who swore by Sierra game kings in 165gn from this gun. He would shoot £1 coins with it from a bipod @ 100m and most were dead centre.

The remingotn likes the heavier bullets IMO.

    hope this helps

Same as any other barrel really, what one likes the next one off the line may prefer a different recipe. Remington have had issue with their barrels and chambering.

Now for your use I would suggest a 150 grain bullet after the T65 cartridge was developed around this weight the 7.62x51 moved to a 144-147 grain bullet but Winchester in adopting the T65 as the .308 Winchester chose a 150 grain bullet. Choose the right type bullet of this weight and you will not have probelms with excessivre carcase damge with a well placed shot either. The 165's also work well in my experience throught the .308. As I am not using mine on Reds I have migrated to the 130 Grn Hornady SP bullet.

    Hi MJ,

Don't know if this is useful, but for what it's worth, I have a Rem 700 SPS Varmint, which only ever gets used on the range. Two loads that I've found that work very well are cock-on 42 gns of Vit. N-140, or 46 gns of Varget behind a 155 gn bullet (SMK 155 HPBT). Bullet is seated back about 15 thou off the lands.

I don't yet reload for the .308 that I have, but if I did, I would try and lay my hands on these:

    Hornady Manufacturing Company :: Bullets :: Rifle :: Choose by Caliber :: .308 30 CAL :: 30 Cal .308 150gr InterLock® SP

I use the equivalent 129 gr SP in my 260.

    Regards JCS

+1 on the Hornady choice. I use the 129's #2620 in my 6.5x55 the 139's #2825 in the 7x57 and probably the 280 AI once it's listed for quarry. The 130's #3020 in the 30-30 and .308 and I am about to load up some of those 150's to try through the P-H 1100 Lwt. Also picked up a box of the 6mm 100 Gr #2450 the other week to try.

Yes I like the Hornady Interlock bullets .

I use 165 grain Sierra game king (1in12 twist), driven by H4895. H380 would also work well.
My 700 SPS tactical will produce .5MOA with the above.

UPDATE on this. The Bullets were 168gn Sierra HPBT. Think it is a target round but do your own research.
