Thread: Opinel knife

    Opinel knife

Am I correct in saying I could carry an Opinel No.6 as a pocket knife. (3" Blade)

When opening a standard lock knife it locks automatically.

On opening an opinel it is not locked until you twist the lock manually.

Therefore is it a lock knife or not, how do you think I stand regards the UK Law. ?

My assumption would be that you couldn't (carry it without reasonable excuse, or whatever it says) because you can (lock it).

Take the lock ring Off,and legal carry as not a locker

Note'd DALUA, But might it not be the case until you bring the locking ring into play, it would just be classed as a pocket knife.

I thought of that too BERNIE. I know the smaller ones don't lock, but are a bit to small.

PS. One other factor I did think on was safety to one's self, would be in turning the lock

so the blade would not shut on you fingers. As it has no spring.

    Perhaps s reasonable excuse!!!!

Although I have a few Knives, I have messed about with Opinel handles they are very easy to shape.

I have played that dance a few years back, now i dress 10cm off the back of the blade (save the FINGERS)

    NOT ON THIS ONE YET!!!

One would need some case-law, I guess. But on the whole, if you have a good reason to use a knife for some lawful purpose then presuambly you have a good reason to use a knife which reduces your chance of cutting yourself.

    An interesting thought!

Billy you can carry a knife in Scotland if you have cause to do so IE, stalking fishing etc, I wrote to the Scottish knife consortium at the time of the consultation for the current knife bill, they wrote back confirming the above .

I posted this up on passion for stalking as Roger had asked the question the answers were concise and to the point ,that you can carry a knife if you have due cause and purpose the have a knife in your possession stalking matches the bill .

Jesus. Do you mean to say that the length of a folding knife blade is regulated, too?? How do you folks stand it?? ~Muir
