    1st buck of the year cleaned

    Just finished boiling this buck and its the first i have done!

    Nice head, front tines are immense. Shame he was still in velvet though, the antlers could do with a bit of colour but don't touch them if you are planning on getting it measured. A bit of peroxide for 12 hours will bring out the skull a treat although it does look a little overcooked, not that it matters if it still stays in one piece.

    Pardon my naivety, but can you actually "overcook" a skull? Is the whiteness of the antlers due to the fact that the buck was in velvet or due to the boiling?

    Over boiled id say but will still come up ok it looks more like a dead one that youv've found lying about ! Potassium permanganate ( prob spelt wrong ) will colour the antlers if you want to colour them later on !

    NO not one i found! if you looked at pic 4 you will see the carcass next to my rifle!

    I could see it was one you had shot just looking at the colour of the skull it looked like ones you come across that have just rotted away !
