It is getting taken seriously by all 4 Yorkshire Police forces now, a major reason for it is the education that has been delivered to them via the Shine a Light campaign, and again mainly thanks to the BDS and especially Roedeerred off this site.

hi they are also getting more awareness in country matters due to the N G O wildlife training scheme, one of the things that came to light was that poachers can be prosecuted for going with the intent to poach under the game act most police offiers think that they have to actually find a dead animal for a prosecution.

A bit of info i was given when i spoke to the rozzers last time i was chasing poachers (North Yorkshire BTW...), i always go through the switchboard, you know, the 08456060247 or whatever it is.. Once i got through to the operator and had told them what was going on, i was informed that the police now have targets to meet with catching poachers and that i should call 999 opposed to using the switchboard, regardless of whether i think theyre armed or not.. it may shave valuable minutes off the response time..

If you ring to report poachers make sure you get a crime number, as sometimes they dont bother recording things,
this way it makes the crime numbers look bad, so they must do something about it.

Well despite what it shows on the TV Lincs Police are only interested in hare coursing and poaching when cameras for the TV are about. we have reported it going on and been on the phone to the Police watching it happen and the Police are simply not interested at all. not once have they even come out.

Their advice on the phone is keep out of sight and do not get involved. Have Look North around and it's all gung ho!
