    Ackley Improved in 243

From a ballistic point of view what is the advantage of an AI? What is the difference between a normal 243 and an AI version. Are factory rounds readily available? Please educate me on this one and are the benefits worth the extra expense? Thanks

Are factory rounds readily available? Yes and no. You may fire std .243 factory ammo through an Ackley.
Please educate me on this one and are the benefits worth the extra expense? - Opinion varies widely. Ackley himself was highly dubious of Ackleyising the .243 but he did it because his customers wanted it.

From a deer stalking perspective, an Ackley is not something I would personally get built, but clearly some folk see benefits in them. The key thing to consider with a custom 243 is not whether to Ackleyise or not, but to get a faster twist barrel like the 1:8 twist one in my gallery. That allows heavier bullets to be used.
