Thread: Winchester brass, is it ready to load?

Winchester brass, is it ready to load?

I normally size all my brass excepting RWS, Norma, and Lapua before I shoot it. Can I do this with Remington and Winchester? I had heard no, but figure I am probably putting more wear and tear on my cases if I don't have to.

What's the answer? Load or Size?

    Cheers,

    Seth

Were they fire formed in your rifle? If yes, then I'd crack on and load them. If not, size them then re-load them, I've used remington for ages but only ever neck size them.

For my own preference I always neck size and trim to length on all new brass.

Full length size / trim / de burr, shoot, neck size trim / de burr.

What Finn said. You can just shoot them, but they will lack the uniformity you'll get by running them through the "process" beforehand. ~Muir

    That is it.

Even if it was Lapua or whatever, I would still give new brass this treatment.

I used to buy 2500 round case-lots of unfired brass and in the box was a slip from the manufacturer stating that due to manufacturing handling, and shipping, there was likely to be the occasional dented neck or case mouth, and that they encouraged FL resizing and trimming before use. I still have a partial case of 30-40 (long story...) in my stores. I'll check to see if that slip is still in with the brass. Of course, this was 20 years ago, but I doubt if they have supplied kid gloves for their employees in the interim.~Muir
