    6x62 Freres calibre

I've been looking at the various calibres for a stalking rifle and have come across this calibre. Its a relatively new development and am trying to find out a bit more about it as some of the European manufacturers are making rifles in it. Has anyone come across it and/or know anything about it? If so what do you think of it?

From Eric Settle's web site (http://ericsettle.co.uk/RELOADING.HTM):

    6x62 Freres
This is a relatively new cartridge introduced by MEN of Germany. The 6x62 significantly out performs the 6mm Remington and .243 WSSM. It is basically equivalent to the North American 6mm-06 wildcat, and just a step behind the .240 Weatherby Magnum. The 6x62 is based on the 9.3x62 case and requires a standard length rifle action.
6x62 factory loads drive an 85 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity (MV) of 3460 fps with 2260 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy (ME), and a 100 grain bullet at a MV of 3313 fps and ME of 2442 ft. lbs. These loads are effective on a wide variety of small and medium game. The 100 grain bullet seems particularly suitable for all species of U.K. and European deer. The 6x62 offers flat trajectory, good killing power, and moderate recoil.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you......

Yep, about 750 I would think. No wonder the rifle smiths like them !!, its a pound a round for barrel wear !

    Hiya
I would give it a wide berth.I bet dies and brass would cost half the price of the rifle,if you could get them.

Another piece of useless hardware...just like that idiot David Lloyd's 244 H & H Magnum. Over bore and over priced and for all practical purposes does nothing that the new "Light Magnum" loads in the 243 Winchester and 6mm Remington do.

With those MV's and lbs, why not just go for a 25-06?
Unless for some reason your really must have a 6mm ???

As far as i can see it will out perform this round in every aspect !

I was originally thinking about the 6mm rem but not many manufacturers use this calibre any more so was leaning to the 25-06 for an all round rifle then spotted this but suspected barrel ware maybe an issue. Has anyone actually got one or shot one?

I've just found some figures for the 25-06 in 100g MV 3230ft/sec ME 2316ft/lb so the 6x62 is faster/more energy but the barrel wear and cost may be a bit prohibitive.
