    243 loads 100gn Speer SP (20inch Barrel)

    Hi All

Anyone out there have any suggestions for a load to work around for a Ruger Mk11 243 with a short 20inch barrel please. I have dropped using 70gn ballistic tips as they are too destructive on the carcasses and thought I would revert to 100 gn soft points . I have a tub of N160 but I am open to any advice or help from fellow stalkers.

    Thanks

    Alan

Have a go with 80 or 85 grain bullets..... they aren't as destructive and do a great job on the Roe. I used 87 grain hornady V-max for a long time and they were simply awsome! and will gladly use them again when i muster up the funds for my 243.
Despite their Varmint designation the 87 v-max aren't destructive at the kind of velocities that your 20 inch barrel will give you..... i used to load mine for accuracy rather than velocity..... which in my rifle mean't a lower speed, but boy they grouped well!... and flattened roe with a vengeance.

I have also ordered some Seirra Gameking 85gns as well so yes I will definetly be trying them out as well. Just need a few suggestions for powder weights etc.

    Thanks for the suggestions

For 100 grain heads you will need a slow burning powder.
Alliant Reloder 22 works well with Winchester Power Point 243 100 grain heads - follow loads in Alliant's website (I use 96% of their max load). - Works fine accurate & no high pressure signs.
    Enjoy & load safe!

The 85grn HP Sierra Gamekings gave me the best results of all those tried in my 24'' 243AI. It would have been chucking them out considerably faster than your 20'' rifle will, and I still found the results on deer regarding damage acceptable. Most accurate in my particular rifle but no saying how they will perform in that respect in yours. I don't think you will be disapointed however in the terminal performance of them. I used H4350 in mine.

Like PKL, my buddy swears by Hornady 87gr BTHP's for both roes and fox.
