landowner called today could I shoot a cow!! it had nearly killed the vet and another one could not get near it.
wonder if its similer to shooting water buffs it went down back end first then raised its head and neck and slumped over.
I can promise you the pickup was not far away I may be :old:but would soon have been in it if it had come any closer. Before you ask it did not feel the 6.5 140gr.1 inch above and between the eyes.

I know some old cows that need a bullet, can i forward their whereabouts in confidence you'll do the same no questions asked?!

Just a thought seeings as you seem to be good at it!

Dont know wether my nerves would stand it.there was some deep breathing, convinced me I would not want to go shooting Dangerous game, the old cows you know may come into that catorgary:D

It did secure me more land for stalking though.lads on here ask how to find stalking.doing this sort of thing adds to mine.

I shot a bull 2 years ago. Same thing tried to kill vet and stockmen.
I chose back of the lug with a 175gr T.B. bear claw.
Dropped like a stone.
Probably closer to 2 tonne then 1.

hi there the cow must have felt something as it went down bk end first and then rased it head
all so if you have not got cows on ur ticket you could get in some rite bother.

dweeb

wondered how long bar room specialists would take to come out ;)
This :old:has that one covered and most animals you can mention;)

A couple of years ago I had to go and shoot a couple of bulls that had escaped and had gone semi wild the farmer nor the vet could get any where near them I shot them with a 270 with 130gr bullets. And yes I have got them on my license under escaped and dangerous live stock. They both dropped on the spot.

p.s. I to am covered under estate management. I rang and checked before the job was undertaken.
dweeb, maybe you should see who on here "has been around a while" they will not be caught out that easy.
it will save you rubbing the locals the wrong way and making yourself look a fool.
regards John

well said john another point for dweeb has he ever studied the reaction of animals to being shot !
Low heart
High heart
Head
Neck
ETC ETC.
Just so he knows in future brain dead front legs act as props back legs go back as nerves tighten muscle neck streches again nerves, muscle spasm causes flinching some panic that have never seen it before it can often be seen in slaughterhouses.at least thats how I was taught.I fail to see how there can be any feeling with brain turned to mush with 140 grn of lead rushing round in there.

I do a fair amount every year, your inch above the eye is still a little low, make an imaginary cross from eye to ear and x marks the spot, im not nit picking just trying to help out anybody that may get the call out to help.....

I'm just wondering now you've blown the story all over the www, where the condition on your certificate says you can shoot cows ,it just that easy for the local constabulary to remove your certificate due to it's miss use.

Some times stories are better not told .

During the foot and mouth some people were granted special clause to remove cattle and sheep by the use of a rifle.

What is stipulated on the conditions is what you can shoot .

Spot on nell .normal standing position .charging a little lower thats my excuse or was it FEAR!

Know where your comming from mate when the fear word comes in:lol: i could write a book about this kind of thing and have you p##sing yourself with laughter, but to many PCs on here im afraid:(

So can I ask? Cos I don't know, if farmer X came and asked me for to shoot a cow or pig or something for a valid reason. Would I need to get a variation on my license or dispensation (Sounds like I need to petition the pope. lol) or something. Would my 243 with a 100 grain do it?
As I say it is highly unlikely that I will ever be asked but just interested.

hello all can i please put my 10 pence worth in. do this job all day every day as i am a knacker man so the right spot to shoot cows and bulls is from top of ears to eyes with a cross and i find go 1 inch up when thay fall thay pick up all 4 legs if thay sit down first you have shot low so just move up a bit. thats the tec out the way fun now went to a prison farm today to shoot a bull with my 243 that was fun i tell u then went to shoot another bull with a broken leg that the vet could not do chicken:) ps you need humaine dispatch on your ticket or be the owner of the animal hope this helps

It certainly would do the job, depends on the circumstances though, at close range a shotgun is often more suitable for the job, as a high or medium powered scope can be a real handicap when you cant find the target....

Are you saying that putting the .22 to the head of a pig I've reared at home, free range, and intend to butcher at home contravenes the letter of my certificate because "Pigs" is not named for .22, is breaking the law? Semantics surely.
In the named circumstances the police are more likely to be ****ed off if you cite the wording of your cert and refuse to help out surely?

how did the gutting go did you hang it up just a butcher wanderin if you would use it most farmers would not waste it as long as it was safe to do so
