    shanes castle gamefair N ireland

just wondering if any of the local members visited the shanes castle gamefair over the past weekend. To say the least i was very disappointed in the number of exhibitors. Like every year i have a list of stuff that i want to buy at the gamefairs and yesterday was no exception, was looking some training stuff for the dog , maybe a foxpro spitfire caller and blood trail marking tape. There wasnt one stall selling gundog equipment that i seen and i would say 1/2 of the normal exhibitors werent in attendance. It appears that the management have priced the exhibitors out of these particular gamefairs and i feel the past weekend could be a nail in the coffin for this gamefair, i certainly wouldnt consider going next year and it is no more than 10 miles from home.

I didn't bother Keith. I even had a free family ticket to use.

I went to the other two this year, and neither were up to much. In fact, they are rubbish. I had not been to any fair for three or four years, and went once last year and twice this year. That is the end of them I think.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you......

I too had a free ticket and gave it a miss. I have to say, Moira was very good this year. First time I had been early enough to spend a bit of time there.
I've never been to the CLA but hope to change that soon. It's not much of a game fair if the only man there with guns is Donal McCloy. Nothing against Donal, he has a cracking range of gear but it would be nice to drool over some other kit for a change. Mervyn Young was at Moira with his rifle porn and that was very interesting. It's not just cost to the exhibitors, there is 2 days of lost trade in the shop if they're off-site with a load of their kit. It's a hard one to see a way around when you have 3 different fairs serving such a small market.

There you have it Aidy, there is not a big enough market for three fairs. The various organisers all want to pocket as much cash as possible, ehich is fair enough, they are in business.

One really good fair, well attended by UK companies would be worth having.

totally agree with both of you. With the bitching that goes on in our wee country i couldn’t ever see one good fair materialising out of what we have here at the moment. Aidy the CLA is a great gamefair although I found it to be a little more aloof than the midlands but both are well worth heading over to, the variety of traders and demonstrations is fantastic. I wont make either this year as a mate talked me into booking flights over to the Portuguese super bike round when I was drunk one night and my wife would cull me if I even thought about it ,
