Left Handed and Left Hand Actions

I happened to be with a distributor the other day and the conversation came to left handed rifles. The decision had been made that no left hand action would be made by this particular manufacturer as it wasn't worth it.
Letting the red mist settle......we discussed that 15% of people are left handed. We also discussed whether left handed people tended to need to be more passionate about their sports because it is always that much harder to obtain equipment.
We talked about left hand people using right hand actions, but I pointed out that it was a bit of a double edged sword, because if that were the case, then surely the same proportion of right handed people should want a left hand action and therefore increase demand.

So, a quick poll please - using the options, please help me collate some data. I'm interested to see:
    Whether many left handed people make do with RH action rifles, either through lack of supply or too long a wait;
Whether the proportion of LH shooters is the same as the ratio for just being left or right handed; and
If any RH people would prefer a LH action.

Not looking to change the world - just want to see whether the underlying data is right on a slow, rainy Sunday evening...!

    Cheers

Thought I'd get the poll going - if you're left handed, please also tell me via a post if you've compromised on your preferred brand because of lack of availability (and what brand you'd prefer).

    I have!

What about right handed people who use right handed rifles, but actually shoot left-handed, and only use right handed rifles due to the poor availability of left handed rifles? (Such as myself.)

your just special and the price should reflect that....lol
but if you really wanted a left handed I'm sure you would of got one regardless
I know a dealer who specialisers in buying left handed rifles just for this reason alone, it may take a while but I'm sure he either has one of can source one for you if you really want it
as I'm sure you are not alone

My first large calibre rifle was a right handed BSA CF11. Being left handed, I found it really awkward to shoot with as it had a rollover cheek piece. No sound moderators in those days so it often gave me a clout on the cheek. By chance in 1986 I managed to get my hands on a Krico Deluxe in left hand and never looked back. I gave up shooting for a few years and sold the rifle unfortunately. By the time I got back into it , left handed rifles were far more readily available. All my rifles , .22 , .17hmr , 22-250 and 25-06 are left handed.

Truth be told, I have a left handed Remmy 700 CDL patiently waiting (back in Canada) for me to get my FAC over here. As such, I have only used an estate rifle over here, which was ironically a right handed Sako, owned by a left hander!

    Hey Teddy,

Good to hear from you. You make a good point. Please answer as a LH who use RH through lack of choice.
(When you're over in Feb, let me know and I'll make sure a proper rifle is available for you!!)
