    Anyone use 'linked In'?

Does anyone use 'Linked In' on the net for professional networking?

I do - as I work for such a large company, it helps and comes into it's own when looking for a career move as I am -

    Just wondered!

Yup and I find it really useful to keep track of colleagues, suppliers and customers - especially when people move company - as they normally update LinkedIn and you can still get in touch. I particularly like the recommendations section - works very well with prospective employers as it's real feedback from customers etc. Like all these things, it needs a bit of effort to make it work, but you need your colleagues to use it too or it is a damp squib.

i probably get one invitation a day to accept someone i've never ever heard of, i will never be in the market for a career move so its probably wasted on me but for the career hungry on the greasy pole (not the european carp eating type) it's probably a useful tool. only my opinion

I find it handy to keep in contact with work colleagues who have moved on and as I deal with a lot of contract staff it's useful to keep track of the good ones that I may need back at some time. As I am likely to be made redundant within the next 12 months I am hoping it may help to find me a new job with some good recommendations etc.

My brovver sent me a link so I joined and in typical humour I put down pornstar for a profession.
About 2 years later they blocked my account. I couldn't log in cos I wanted to delete the account as I never use it. They said something about being serious blah blah.... In hindsite I suppose I could have argued the point and sent them video evidence but the missus might complain about me hiring a camera team to listen to us snoring....... Well that is as exciting as it gets these days..............
So I don't use it and don't think I ever will. Tend to stick with recruitment agencies when looking, which I am now funny enough.
I can speak in-depth and with great knowledge about most subjects until some bugger who actually knows what he is speaking about opens his gob .

We interviewed a chap recently, seemed as though he was the mutz nutz and ideal for the job so checked him out on LinkedIn. Turned out we knew people that he knew and when we inquired about him? 'Has the gift of the gab', 'takes on all the interesting work - that he never completes' and is 'a work shy tw@t' (all someone else's description of him). Needless to say we are still interviewing other people.

Looks like joining Linked In isn't the best move for everyone!

I found my current job through LinkedIn. Definitely a recruitment agents paradise or if you are job hunting. Not exactly enthralling for the most part though.
