Midland game fair and bitch due to whelp

My Russell bitch is due to pup on the 15september , when i would normaly be at the midland game fair fri-sun .

This is her first litter can any one advise if she might whelp early ?

I dont want to book the weekend (approx 300.00 for the lot of us ) then not be able to go .

Bitches never whelp early. The length of pregnancy is very consistent, but dog sperm may live up to 5 days in the reproductive tract, so if they go longer it's because fertilisation happened a few days after mating. Puppies a few days old can need a lot of care. Unless you have someone you trust 100% to look after mum and pups I wouldn't dream of going away for 3 days.

No question is there , you need to be at home with the bitch , the game fairs will be there next year and their all the same really arent they

I wouldn't recommend leaving her under any circumstance. My bitch's first litter produced 8 seemingly healthy pups; within 24 hours they'd picked up an infection that left 3 dead plus a vet bill for a late night visit. It's not worth the risk.

Afraid you're on your own, mate. I'm still trying to persuade my wife that we should keep one of our pups......should have realised there would be trouble ahead when she left the "obey" bit out of her wedding vows!

As all above,........ I used to breed Parson Jack's way back, another thing to watch out for with a first time whelping is Pre Eclampsia, fatal within a very short time period, but reversible if seen & understood, by a simple injection with recovery in minutes.
