Mabe it would help if you gave instructions and requirements to clean a barrel. I have a rifle, 150 rounds through it, not been cleaned chemically. Must be due???? Talk me through the process using Wipe-Out. Stalking rifle not target. Jim

First kill the carbon with something like KG-1 or carburettor cleaner on a patch(s) or work up a foam with a nylon brush. Repeat as necessary based on the colour that comes out on the patch.

Second use the wipe-out liquid (Patch-Out) on a patch or nylon brush and leave it in the bore to attack the copper fouling. Repeat as necessary based on the colour that comes out on the patch.

Then use dry patches to remove traces of the cleaner.

Oil the bore with a synthetic oil like Eezox. This is important because the non-ammonia cleaners (ammonia cleaners can rust the barrel) are usually water based.

Before use, dry patch the bore to remove the oil (I use lighter fluid or iso-propanol on a patch to do this) and you are good to go.

The only difference between a hunting rifle and target rifle barrel is how often you feel like carrying out the cleaning process!
