..I guess I should start off with my .243, will add the others later.

    .243
Game/Purpose: Fox, Roe, Mutjac, CWD (can be used on Reds with 100g'ers but not ideal)
Barrell length and twist: 20" 1:10, but 1:8 twist better for 100g and 105g bullets
Best Loads: 87g Hornady BTHP, 35.5g Varget, CCI LR2 BR primer, 2.7000" COAL
Advantages: Light, fast and flat, cheap to reload, common ammo on RFD shelves
Disadvantages: a bit big for Vermin, a bit small for Reds, Fallow, Sika

Flame me now. In my opinion big game, 150lbs and up, cartridges begin with 6.5 caliber.

Flame me again. With current bullets and powder, I see no need for the AIs in 243 or 30-06. You might get 50fps more out of the 243 and 100 more in the 30-06. I don't see the're worth the effort.

7x57, 7-08 and 30-06 probably get better performance with a 24" barrel, which I prefer, but they work fine with a 22". They are all good for game up to 3-400yds and 400lbs or so. I use intermediate weight bullets, 150gn 7mm and 165 30cal.

If I were to buy one to hunt "merry olde England" I'd get a 'small' 7.

I'll second that, especially about the AI. Ballistically speaking, not worth the effort.~Muir

    .243
Game/Purpose: CWD, Muntjac, Roe, Fallow, Sika, Reds, Fox, Feral Goat.
    Barrell length and twist: 20" - 1 in 10"
    Best Loads: 95gn Ballistic Tip, 44.5gn Vit. N160, Rem 9 1/2 primer
Advantages: Very accurate, easy cartridge to find a good choice of bullets for, low recoil/muzzle flip.
Disadvantages: Shot placement Very important on Sika & Red stags. Not good for longer range shots on Reds.
Other comments: Excellent wide ranging calibre/cartridge.

Why have you not included .25-06 Rem. ?

    Please add!

doesn't seem like a popular thread though maybe one with controversial FLO issues would have sparked more inspiration! LOL

I concur...................althought the 260 Remington is 'quite close' in performance to the 25-06 !

The .260 is Quite close to the 6.5x55 as well !

One of the .243's disadvantages is they are fussy with 100 gr bullets ?

Although the list seams abit not whishing to be rude but pointless ! As what ever caliber people shoot they tend to be blinkered, and think their choice is the best !

    I shoot .22rf ( not on list )
    .17 fireball ( not on list )
.22-250 good but noisy and no better than the .17 at killing lamped fox's
    .260 my first choice
    7.62x51

All do different jobs be it due to the rifle or caliber i use them all but if any had to go the .22-250 would be first out as others can bridge the gap !
