I use a Turner Richards dummy launcher with the shot gun stock adapter.
You say that it is too easy to frighten a dog if kept too close. But the dog is going to be either at heel or in front of you when you’reout shooting .
What is it your training if it is an ESS a how will you teach it to mark if there is no action from you if i had a remote i would still use a starting pistol to get the dog to drop to shot and mark the bird on the shot or the flush.

the Idea of a dummy launcher is to launch a dummy out to distance following a shot
the aim is more to achieve the flight of a winged birds that drop at distance, so your dog still follows an intended target after the initial shot and marks it
these are better used once your dog has be trained to shot
those that run before they can walk , will ruin a good dog all day long
