6.5 x 55 limitations

The big advantage of the 30-06 is that ammo is available all over.

Bullet quality and placement is the key and I would rather use a 6.5x55 with a 140 grain premium bullet than a 30-06 with a standard 150-180 grain bullet on the heavier plains game.
But a 30-06 with a 180 grain Swift A-frame bullet or a 165 grain Barnes TSX bullet would be my first choice for all plains game if you want a standard factory cartridge that also is versatile on European game.
If you are a bit recoil shy and think a 30-06 is a bit tough, then it is just better to use your 6.5x55 if you are shooting better with that than with a 30-06.

Or you can get a larger caliber like a 375 and load it with high BC bullets for smaller at long range and some heavy premium bullets for bigger and you will be sorted for whatever will come in front of you as long as you can shoot well with it:)

That said, I would not hesitate to take my 6.5-06 with me to hunt plains game either:)
