    Steve,

Does it say Alan Wood on it anywhere. I can't see from the photos. Also, do you know what steel its made from. If its stainless (which it looks to be) it will be more valuable.

Its certainly an unusal one. I've not seen anything he's made like that before.

    Cheers,

    Bob

Ask on British Blades, I have seen them for hundreds of pounds

Alan is a member on British Blades and will certify it's one of his. There are people far better qualified than me to help, but if it's RWL-34 it's going to be near 300+.

    Steve,

I think 300 might be a bit close to the price of a new one, but should be a couple of hundred at least.

I think it might be quite an early one, but as Dougster and Chicken have said - some one on British Blades will give you some good info.

Thanks for posting pics of it - always good to see. Alan Wood is Yoda !!!

    Cheers,

    Bob

    Hi Steve,

I asked Alan Wood about your knife this evening. This is what he told me about it, straight from the horses mouth:

    Hi Nick,
That indeed is a rare beast. Originally designed for a Swedish elk hunter. How succesful it was I don't know as he stopped coming to the CLA Game Fair. I only made a couple with soldered guards and a handful more with no guard and a longer handle.
If the blade is 6mm (hard to tell from the photo) it will be D2 steel. If 5mm it will be 12c27. The engraving style was used circa 1986-89.
My stalking mate and ex-gamekeeper keeps one in the door pocket of his Hilux and has battered the hell out of it over the years. He cut his thumb a couple of times on the top axe edge so I blunted it although it is still able to split sticks for trap stakes etc. He has used it for deer although he has better models and I once watched him hack up a load of rabbits for cage traps.
Not much else to say only that I have made some strange stuff in the past.
I'll see if I can get a photo of my mate's one next time I see him.

Sell this in the right place mate and Double that 300! Where did you acquire it? Be interesting to see how it got from a Swedish Elk hunter to you!

Owning a gun or knife and not using it, is akin to not sleeping with your girlfriend to keep her neat and tidy for the next bloke.

I have an Alan Wood that is the Dogs Danglies and when I showed it a mate who is a collector he advised the British Blades site and I would double my money at least. I use it every time I stalk brilliant knife so I won't sell it as I but things to use not look at. I spoke to Alan at Weston and he is a really nice bloke.

    Hi Guys
I have measured the thickness of the blade at the thickest points and she measures 5.30 mm approx or 0.2085" inches all measurements are approx , so I will let you decide what steel you think it is ?

    Regards
    Steve
