    Sako 243

Selling my 243 Sako 591 varmint. professionally shortened to 18 1/2" recrowned and screwcut 1/2" UNF. Fitted with a Wildcat predator 8 fullbore mod, Optilock mounts and rings and Hawke 4x12x50 plus adjustable butt pad. The rifle is in excellent condition and shoots very accurate groups as the pic shows. I pulled one of these shots normally they would clover leaf or in the same hole. If F2F I have 55 hand loads the same used on the target picture. The only reason for selling is I want a 6.5 x 55.

    Looking for 750

Bipod, sling and stock cover not included

    Stupid question but:

At 18.5" is the velocity (on the .243) still deer legal with factory ammo?

    England and Wales

For Muntjac and Chinese Water deer only- a rifle with a minimum calibre of not less than .220 inches and muzzle energy of not less than 1000 foot pounds and a bullet weight of not less than 50 grains may be used.
For all deer of any species - a minimum calibre of .240 and minimum muzzle energy of 1,700 foot pounds is the legal requirement.
    Northern Ireland

For Muntjac and Chinese Water deer only- a rifle with a minimum calibre of not less than .220 inches and muzzle energy of not less than 1000 foot pounds and a bullet weight of not less than 50 grains may be used.
For all deer of any species - a minimum calibre of .236 inches, a minimum bullet weight of 100 grains and minimum muzzle energy of 1,700 foot pounds is the legal requirement.
    Scotland

For roe deer, where the bullet must weigh at least 50 grains AND have a minimum muzzle velocity of 2,450 feet per second AND a minimum muzzle energy of 1,000 foot pounds may be used.
For all deer of any species - the bullet must weigh at least 100 grains AND have a minimum muzzle velocity of 2,450 feet per second AND a minimum muzzle energy of 1,750 foot pounds.

So on this info yes it is legal for deer.

    Sorry,

It was a stupid question, poorly framed

What I meant was, given a 100g head the bullet would have to be leaving the muzzle at c. 2750 fps to achieve 1700 ftlbs (roe legal). Does the rifle achieve this ( in general - how long is a bit of string) given the cut down length? Probably not a question for this thread.

Btw I am in the Market for a .243 and this looks like a tidy set up for the cash, I like the short barrel but was concerned about mv. Can't consummate though till 21 dec (bonus day).

Just checked with the Hogdons reloading manual and there is 8 loads for 100 grain bullets on minimum amount of powder above 2750 fps so counting all the bullet heads and powder variations I am pretty sure there is lots of loads to satisfy the english laws of shooting roe. I have stalking within 5 miles of each other one in England and one in Scotland so you can see how the law affects my calibre choice. I am not sure with factory ammo as i never use them.
