Brno xkk601

I have a Brno xkk 601 that I would like to change the trigger on.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

OK so what is wrong with the one fitted?

And what type is it?

The ZKK series had two options the normal single stage curved blade and the straight bladed sett trigger usually fitted at the factory. The rifles came with the normal curved blade in the red tapered plastic bolt wallet but somehow it seems a lot got separated from the rifles. I badgered my dealer and he hunted out one for me as it was missing from the box when we took my rifle out in the shop.

I am not sure that an after market trigger was offered for them. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more information.

It currently has the curved blade single stage trigger but seems to have excessive trigger creep.
Maybe I can adjust this, I dont know so will have a look on the interweb.
Once the first stage has been taken up the release is crisp and predictable.

mine is similar long creep but predictable. I asked about this a while ago but nobody seemed to know anything. The set on the straight blade is very crisp but I couldnt adjust it to the point that it wasnt dangerously light so I just screwed in the grub so the set cannot be engaged. Its doing the business but I would prefer to have a crisper more precise unit

Ok.... on my own one there is a bit of creep but not much and I achieved this by just keep on trying the adjustment a tiny bit at a time. They can, so I ahve read, be made very good but I have never managed it myself. There is a Californian gunsmith by the name or Lon Paul:-

Who specialises in Brno's so perhaps dropping him an e-mail might be worth while?

On my 601 .243 the straight blade type trigger is good and predictably crisp, I am more than happy with it, I rarely use the set trigger option tho. I have used my 601 for about 16 years or so from brand new and never regretted it, a good workman like rifle.

I have 'Bolt Action Rifles' by Frank De Haas, and he devotes a chapter to this model (of which I have two), he speaks of it with the curved trigger already installed, he states there is some over travel present but not excessive, so if yours is, it may need looking at, the photos with the curved trigger show no springs(2) behind it or stop(1) and hold down(1) pins, anyone with a set trigger will see these if you take the trigger guard off as they are one unit.
Either way lad, you have one of the best post-war mauser actioned rifles made, if you go on to the CZ forum usa and the south african hunting forum you will see there is a huge following for them even now.

Thanks for the help chaps. After looking into it a bit I dont think the take up is 'creep' at all, I think its just first stage. The rifle shoots really tight groups with 150gr BTSP's with 44.5gr Vit140 behind them.
As the rear sight has been removed from this rifle I'm going to have it screw cut and a mod put on it as I like it so much.

I know they are a bit agricultural but I love my zkk 601 with the straight set trigger.

Sorry but the ZKK sett trigger is not one unit it consists of two flat section "U" shaped springs an the straight blade with it's sprung sett bit in the centre and two pins. I have the one I took off my ZKK 601 in front of me now. Will take photo later after the collecting dad from hospital.

Edit:- Too dark now and bad day as Dad was kept in.

OK this is the complete sett trigger mech I removed from my ZKK 601:-

Now looking at it I suddenly remembered something I had read or heard that the sett weight and travel can be adjusted in the trigger blade itself. That screw in the side of the blade is an adjusting screw. Screw it all the way in and it seems to remove the sett option making the central grooved blade solid and unmovable in the main blade. Hope that may be of some help but I fear that the CZ 550's trigger may be different.
