    Primer change - safety

    Hello all,

    Solely from a safety aspect:

If I had a set load of say 52 grs of a specific powder, specific case, set OAL, and this wasn't much short of the pressure signs, could I change the primer from CCI's standard to their magnum primer (keeping everything else exactly the same) and sleep easy or do I have to start all over again, and work up the charges?

If I were to you i`d drop it down a grain or 2 and work your way back up, stick at the same AOL just rework the powder.

    + 1 on that.

Start over my friend. A magnum primer can make a lot of difference especially if you are using a relatively fast burning powder. All reloading manuals will tell you not to change components. Good Luck. LBA

Reduce your charge by 10% and work back up to a safe and satisfactory load.

Yup to all of the above. One change in component and you have a new load, not a "modified" load.~Muir
