Hi all just skined the 2roe from weekend .And knot seen any as fat that I have shot all the time iv been stalking. I think these two have been at the provin.
The 2 doe's I shot last weekend, jackets off, weighed 32 and 36 lbs respectively. Forgot to weigh them skin on. LOTS of fat, both their kidneys were comletely covered, probably 2 - 3 hand fulls of fat round them.
Our average weight is 18kg (39.6lb). The roe does have been scarce in the woods so far this year, my guess would be the exceptionally mild weather is keeping them in the fields for longer allowing them better access to better feeding maybe accounting for the slightly higher body weights. My own livestock are certainly eating less hay and concentrate at the moment whilst still retaining condition. Makes a change from the last two winters I suppose.
