    Out standing result.

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you to all the advice i have recieved about the .308 round..
after some trial and effort i have found my round

    110grain ballastic tip .308
    43grains of Vt N120
    lapua brass
    2674 fps

This round zeroed at 100yrds shoots POA at 150 right down to 50yrds (incredible)

    Once again guys
    many thanks
    Fingers

Great accuracy result, but I'm curious why you'd use a 110g, only to throw it at 2674fps, which I think is only going to be just deer legal (just over 1700ftlbs) ?

It seems to have a very loopy trajectory, zeroed at 100yds, it's dropping nearly 4.5" at 200yds.

    Mark.

I would also query the velocity, its gotta be doing more than that.. surely?

Glad you got a load sorted though! All the best.

Its a stalking round mate i would very rarely shoot @ any further than 180yrds. just because the legal limit is 1700ftlbs does not mean you have to beat it! and i wouldnt belive everthing you read, i doubt it would drop more than 1.5" @200. bearing in mind once you know what your round does you aim off..

Of course, and if it works for you, that's fine, but the ballistics software I use certainly shows it dropping nearly 4.5" from 100 to 200yds.

What did it drop from 100 to 150yds ? Software reckons about 1.3".

I would have expected to easily see it up at circa 3200-3300fps, and nice and flat.

    Hi Lateral,
we have a range on our farm, i zeroed the home loads at 100yrds, we then went forward patched out and shot at 50yrds, it shot the center orange patch straight out on 2 in the hole (clover leaf), then went back to 150 and the first shot was center of the orange patch, second round just above quarter of an inch and the 3rd half inch low. although i have not chronographed it , my fps is mathmatically based so it may well be a little more, but i dont have access to a chrono yet but when i do i will post what it actually is.

Ok, assumed you'd crono'd it, based on the "2674fps".

Just looked up the VihtaVuorire loading guide http://www.lapua.com/upload/download...uideed9eng.pdf

There will be some disparities, based on different gun, barrel length ?, bullet, but they give a max load for a Sako 110g HP, N120 41.2g giving circa 3157fps (35.8g giving 2769fps).

43g seems pretty "hot", and I's expect it to be closer to 3300fps

    Mark.

fingers, im not querying the legalities or drop, just a gross error check i did in my head.. my old .308 with 150gn SSTs and 43gn H4895 was doing 2900fps..

I was just questioning if that speed is correct, ie have you got a dodgy chrono?

Hmm....... i will go and borrow one and find out what it is, as i am a little concerned if it is that high .
    Thanks Guys

This is all a bit speculative, especially as I couldn't find a BC for 110gr .308 Ballistic Tips on Nosler's website: but using the Norma calculator and a made-up BC of 0.34, if you set the zero at 150yds and adjust the mv until there is another zero at 50yds, the mv you get is just under 3000fps.

    Then it's +0.5" at 100yds, -5" and -10" at 200 and 250yds respectively.

I'll be interested in the chrono result!

If it were my rifle, it would be zeroed at about 215yds with such a load. But then if it were my rifle, it would not be digesting such a load!
