All,

4x4 Insurance renewal coming up in two weeks, has anyone had a decent quote recently? My existing company wants almost 25% of the cars value this year!

Any recommendations?

Tom

Insurance

My renewal for my Mitsubishi came through at £483.00 with Admiral, went on confused.com and ended it up at £290 with Elephant.

Stupid thing is Admiral own Elephant!

Plus go through the web and get some nectar points, all helps in this day and age.

As previous poster recommending NFU.
A bit old fashioned in as much they take all your details and phone you back with a quote. Its my second year with them for my Navara 55 plate.
I always shop around come renewal time and they have been cheapest for me.

Just renewed for the Frontera £354 with breakdown/recovery and home start for Comp cover through Nationwide off Go compare cover is by LV.

just insured with glynswood for my defender (off road use plus quite a few modifications) £257 f comp ,most will not cover modifications !or charge extra ,its best to list everything, as has been said make sure cover is for OFF ROAD AS WELL ! dont give them any excuses if a claim should arise

Hi Tom,

Long time no speak!

I insured my Pajero and now my Rodeo through Direct Line... but they were hideously more expensive to insure my M3 CSL which I ended up insuring with Swiftline. Specialist car, group 20, Iggy Pop ads etc - go figure! But then swiftline completely refused to insure the Rodeo

NFU were really expensive quoted on both, but then they gave me unlimited mileage fully comp on a vintage tractor with no functioning brakes for £40!

Insurance is a bit of a computer lottery, if your location/vehicle/details suit their computer algorithms you win and it seems the only way to find out is to ring around sadly.

Hi Alex,

I wondered where the CSL came from.

Its strange isnt it with insurance, my first call after recommendations on the forum for my Hilux was the NFU, they were really expensive, churchill, who i was with when i had my Cherokee would not even insure me, so i rang Direct Line and a got a great price, had a little prang shortly after buying the Hilux (reversing, dont ask!) and they were superb, got me a replacement car, and i dreaded the renewal, when it came the price had gone by just inflation.
And it is insured for off road use.

Cheers

Richard

My best quote on my Hilux was with Swinton, going into the local office was about £250 cheaper than their on-line quote.

It all depends on what vehicle you have & your circumstances.
We have 3 4x4's all insured with different companies...NFU, Adrian Flux & Direct Line.
It's good to use the comparison sites on the web but be careful because the likes of Direct Line don't use them. Also I have found that Adrian Flux do have a like for like quote match/beater price promise
Also pays to speak to the brokers to ensure the cover is adequate for your needs...i.e. off road & modifications.

Aviva were £110 cheaper than NFU like for like, I will now try and get the nfu to match
