Nissan Qyashquai - any good off road

My Nissan X-Trail is beginning to give up the ghost. It hates cold mornings and stuttered and juddered all the way from Harrow to Canterbury today. It's done this before and the garage can't work out what the problem is.

I'm looking to change it and local dealers seem to have few 2nd hand x-trails. But one has several Quashquais. Anyone got any experience of whether they cut it off the road?

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck then it generally is a duck! to me the Quashquai looks as though it's Nissans attempt at a chelsea tractor?Looks to me as though it'd struggle getting out of the garage let alone on the sticky stuff?
Go to a Nissan dealer and ask them if you can road test it on an offroad course, their answer should give you an idea as to it's offroad ability?

In a word No, a friend had one and on a couple of occasions i had to rescue him once from a grass field with a bit of morning dew on, the electronics are trying to be too clever on them. he had it for 6 months and flogged it then bought a Nissan Pathfinder

    Hi Loosehead,

I don't think I'd want to risk it. The Qashqai is a hatchback made to look like an SUV. I does have 4WD, but definitely aimed more at on, rather than off road use. Fine for dropping the kids at school when there's a wet leaf on the road, but that's about it.

I've just had the same mate on my X Trail. I bet you've got a 2.2 diesel on a 02 plate?
Mass Airlow meter is one possible cause or possibly EGR valve. Mine turned out to be injectors which wasn't cheap!

It's easy to be hard on Squashy's (Quashquais - is that really the plural?) ability sans tarmac but going far offroad isn't really what they were designed and made for. A chap on the local shoot has one and I've had a couple of trips out with the Defender to pull him out of muddy tracks - the last time he'd bent up the nearside sill area by dropping down onto some concrete put in to fill up a hole. However, he was running it on what looked to be road pattern tyres.

Depends on how far into the mud you want to go - if you really want one, I think they would be ok just offroad onto grass etc. providing you can get suitable (AT) tyres to fit the wheels as the ground clearance looks comparable to other car type 'SUV's like the X70 etc.
