Thread: Leupold scopes.

  1. #1

    Leupold scopes.

might be a bit of a silly question but, i have a leupold VX-III on the underside of the 30mm tube, where the front ring would sit, there is a hole/depression. about 2mm wide and 1mm deep. it is offset to about the 7 o'clock position.

only thing i can think of is for a scope ring to clip into to help stop the scope slipping back from recoil. think is i cant find a scope ring with a lug in it to fit.

    whats the hole for please

    Hi Phil,

Is the hole/depression manufactured or is it like a crimp which could have been formed by misfitting of the rings ( I suppose I should have also asked if you bought it new)? I've had a few leopolds and found them to be very good, but I've never seen a hole in the tube itself. Why not drop Leupold a line from their website?

I would say it has something to do with the manufacturing process, probably a location point for a fixture or jig.

Looks to neat to be a bodge job, and the serial number can be checked at gmk uk ltd, to make sure its a real one,

or could it be a way the tube is made during its manufacture, or another way that they now gas the scope when built/re-gas it after work has been done,

is it because it's designed for the AR15 range?
