Thread: rem 700 or tikka T3 22.250

    rem 700 or tikka T3 22.250

im thinking about geting another 22.250 to semi coustom with thumbhole stock blueprint and maby later re-barrel
    as a foxing rifle

but un sure wether to start with a rem or a tikka!

i no the rem actions are good and you can pick parts up all over to coustomise them but prefer the tikka as a gun to use ie better safety and you can lock the bolt down and just the look of the rifle (i no that isnot every thing)

    i have a tikka t3 and a rem sps

and just dont no wot to get next!?!?!?

or should i just go for the 6.5 cal as every one seams to be going that way and if so what 6.5 and do rem do one?

If you are after customisable then the Rem will give you more options. T3's are a better base rifle though, imo, but you won't have anywhere near the level of choice for bits and the number of people who will do work on it will limit you more.

6.5mm is a good bullet whatever is driving it. If you go something more obscure than the 6.5x55 you'll have to reload.
Both Tikka and Rem do a .260, probably both on special order. 6.5x47 will be harder to find in a factory and I don't think the 4mm difference is all that material. 6.5 Grendel is rarer, 6.5 Creedmore rare but becoming more popular.

Truth is most of these things will perform roughly the same so it comes down to the nut behind the butt.

Get the t3, better base rifle as has been mentioned and the likes of Roedale Precision will customise it as much or as little as you like. Their web shop will give you an indication as to the aftermarket parts available.

I'd go for the Tikka; have a word with ukgunworks, they specialise in bits and pieces for T3's.

No they only deal from Germany, PM ejg on here for stocks, his son makes very very nice stocks from composite and will, I believe, give SD discount. Roedale are always very busy and not always brilliant at gettin back to you! Their products and rifle smithing skills are 2nd to none though.

and what advantage would you say i would have with a 6.5X55 over my 22.250? are they as flat but with more punch or do they have a bigger arch on them i love the 22.250 for how flat it is and would lie a rifle to match that with a bit more range and power

use the remmy and build a 6.5x47 lap with a thumbhole from mcmillan or darrell holland stock
throw in a jewell triger ,you could blueprint the remmy action and fit a aftermarket recoil lug and you will have one awsome accurate rifle that you wont regret building
