    44 rm rifle.

    Hi all.
Does any other member out there use a 44 Rem mag rifle 24 inch barrel for wood land deer stalking?. I use a 1892 win in 44 mag with hornady leverrevolution ammo This is good in the 44 out to 150yrds after which it drops like a brick. There is no scope on the 92 so i use a marbles tang sight
i have had good results with this setup and the rifle is very accurate all shots within 2-3 inchs at 100yrds.
    All the best Lever Man.

PS. will post picts when i figure it all out.

All Munties and CWD I hope
Even the lever Evolution cartridges will fall short of the power needed for the larger Deer in the UK.I may be wrong but I thought that 1700 fpe was the minimum required.Yet even the Buffallo Bore 340 grain LFN Gas checked @ a muzzle velocity of 1478 fps can only make 1649fpe and that is a plus pressure loading to boot.

I used to own a marlin in .44rem some time back and that was conditioned for deer. 200grn Federal H.P. (factory load) achieved just over 2,000fps out of that rifle which met the requirement of over 1700ft/lb. I confirmed the velocity using a chronagraph. I never did use it for deer in the end but felt confident that the rifle and load combination would have been good within the relatively short ranges normally encountered in woodland stalking.
It's the calibre of the shooter that counts not the calibre of the rifle.

    Hi Walrus.
The Evolution 44 ammo does 1747ftlbs from a 20inch barrell and somewhat more from my 24inch barrelled 1892 rifle so it is ok for all deer big and small.
The knock down power of a 225grnftx round is devistating and most just drop on the spot. A big bullett equals big wound channel and less meat damage much less than
    a 243 in my experience.
