Praise Where It's Due

February's edition of Shooting Times Magazine features a letter of glowing praise for Lothian and Border's Firearms Licensing Section, and one officer in particular - Alan Beveridge - is singled out for special praise.

The letter of praise was sent in by a 'R.Kerr', of the Scottish Borders and printed in the Reader's letters section of the magazine:

"I would agree with the two readers whose letters ('Licensing praise 1 and 2' - 15 February), suggested that not enough praise is given to the police forces and in paricular the firearms enquiry officers who administer the legislation in a sensible manner. I live in the Scottish Borders and have been dealing with the Lothian and Borders Police for more than 40 years, in respect of both my shotgun and firearms certificates. The service that I have recieved from them over the years has been nothing but fair, even-handed and timely.

"The current firearms enquiry officer, Alan Beveridge, goes out of his way to ensure that certificates and renewals are applied for on time and believes that part of his job is to assist shooters in this process. All my friends in this area who shoot would echo my sentiments." - R. Kerr.

I know Alan quite well and he has done my renewal a couple of times and discussed variations for me. Very approachable, understanding of shooters varying needs and always looks at things from a positive instead of a negative perspective. Pity they were not all like him up and down the country...

Never had any problems with any of the Lothian and Borders team. Always helpful with everything.
Another plus for living in such a wonderful part of the world.

Great to see folks happy with the service provided.

But...................I find it a bit strange when people are ccomplimented for doing just what we pay them for!

Its how people choose to do what they are paid for that makes them stand out or not.
I have dealt with Murkeyside police and have nothing but good words for them.

Its good to hear of people satisfied with the service they receive from their Firearms department, as I have been with mine Central Scotland Police, all to often you only hear of the negative side.

People are complimented all the time in all walks of life for going beyond the minimum required. With all the criticism on the go directed at FEO's which includes that aired on this site, I think it is important to know that there is at least one out there who is capable of of doing his job well...

I have been dealing with Northern Constabulary in Inverness for the last few years. Applications are turned around in a week; I live in Zurich. Great people to deal with and when I ask for a calibre to be added to my Visitors Permit, they deal with it in record time as well.
