February's edition of Shooting Times Magazine features a letter of glowing praise for Lothian and Border's Firearms Licensing Section, and one officer in particular - Alan Beveridge - is singled out for special praise.
The letter of praise was sent in by a 'R.Kerr', of the Scottish Borders and printed in the Reader's letters section of the magazine:
"I would agree with the two readers whose letters ('Licensing praise 1 and 2' - 15 February), suggested that not enough praise is given to the police forces and in paricular the firearms enquiry officers who administer the legislation in a sensible manner. I live in the Scottish Borders and have been dealing with the Lothian and Borders Police for more than 40 years, in respect of both my shotgun and firearms certificates. The service that I have recieved from them over the years has been nothing but fair, even-handed and timely.
"The current firearms enquiry officer, Alan Beveridge, goes out of his way to ensure that certificates and renewals are applied for on time and believes that part of his job is to assist shooters in this process. All my friends in this area who shoot would echo my sentiments." - R. Kerr.
I know Alan quite well and he has done my renewal a couple of times and discussed variations for me. Very approachable, understanding of shooters varying needs and always looks at things from a positive instead of a negative perspective. Pity they were not all like him up and down the country...
