The only beneficial development of the 270 would have been to shorten it to use in more modern actions with more modern powders. But that's already near enough been done. It uses, OK, a slightly larger bullet, and is called the 7mm-08.
The 270 WSM is really quite pointless. Especially as you can get the same performance by using an "improved" version of the standard 270 the 270AI or the 270 Gibbs.
One less round to gain what? Nothing that makes great difference. Why? Because there just isn't the WIDELY AVAILABLE range of bullets for the 270 over and above 160 grains to gain anything. And, in any case, again in these 160 grain plus weights nothing that the 280 Remington or 7x64 can't do better at less cost.
I use a standard 270. In fact I've two. I think that you've made a wise decision to reject the WSM chambering.
