Thread: RFD in South East Scotland (Lothian/Borders)

RFD in South East Scotland (Lothian/Borders)

If a new one was to open up in Edinburgh what would you want from it?

At present the local area is well served for fishing tackle, country clothing and expensive ammo. There don't appear to be any reloading suppliers or ammunition suppliers that will either carry or order in anything that is not

Where do those in Edinburgh and Borders currently go for ammo, bullets, powders, primers etc?

I cant be bothered driving to Bushwear every time! costs too much

    Game & Country, Selkirk.

    Border Gunroom, St Boswells.

And now from someone off this site who kindly offered to get me brass recently.

I go to Tain for powder. Regards JCS

An RFD who just closed shop and Roy Jacob near Thornhill.

Needs are: good selection of heads, I only use N140/160 so no problem there, and I use Lapua.

Either one of those is an 80 mile round trip for anyone living in Edinburgh and when I went to BGR they didnt have any .270 bullets.
I found that a bit strange.

Bushwear - 80 mile round trip
Thornhill - 120 mile round trip

and the 7 (weird) results from Yell were:

    R Welsh & Son 72 miles
James Crockart & Son 88 miles
    Crocket The Ironmongers 82 miles
Graham Mackinlay & Co 106 miles

any one of those is going to add 50 to your bill in fuel alone!

Strikes me as odd that a so called Capital city with an International Airport and any amount of foreign stalkers/shooters and hunters passing through, in addition to several rifle clubs, ranges, doesn't have a dedicated "Gun Shop".

I know they are not ideally located for city folk...

What I would say about Game & Country is, they will order you in basically anything you need.

Been said already but Border Gun Room. Now buying my Federals from Dicksons ( Fredrick St ? ) Edinburgh now as they are the cheapest I have found. 10 cheaper than Border GR ! In there two weeks ago and I am sure they had .270 in stock, worth a call anyway.

Braidwood Clays near Selkirk is quite reasonably priced when it comes to ammo., they are very competitive in general and they do a mean bacon roll.. Unfortunately the travelling can be a bind. An RFD in Edinburgh/Midlothian would be well received , as long as they didn't pull your pants down from a price point of view.

    Nelson.

Are you aware of the midway dealer list?

    http://www.midwayuk.com/dealers.html#scot

Quite useful I think, as many rfd's work from home, and it's considered to be some sort of secret!
