Self catering cottage on Isle of Lewis available

Self catering cottage sleeping 6 available on a croft on the West Side of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. The cottage isn't actually for sale, only for holiday lets, but "for sale" is the only suitable option on this forum :-)

This is the IDEAL location for those looking for the perfect fishing destination. There are literally hundreds of trout lochs which are free fishing and salmon fishing is also available in the area. The salmon fishing ranges from free to weekly permits to the possibility of a day on some very exclusive waters indeed. There is free trout and salmon fishing on a loch within 5 minutes walk of the cottage with other options ranging from a few minutes in the car to an hour and a half in the car plus a 12 mile walk across difficult hill and moor.

Lewis and the attached island of Harris also has some amazing stalking for red deer as well as lots of shotgun sport. You can see my reports on stalking hinds and also, further down the thread, stags in the area on the following thread:

It is also the ideal location for a family holiday with a good sandy beach only a short walk from the cottage and lots to see and do in the area, especially for the "outdoor" family. There are still a few weeks for this August available though July and September are pretty much full now.

Please use the contact details on the link above should you wish to enquire about booking but if you want information about how you might arrange salmon fishing, stalking or shooting then feel free to drop me a PM. I have been fishing for trout on Lewis for over 20 years now and so can direct you to a range of interesting trout lochs depending on how far you wish to walk.

Unfortunately the ISP hosting www.7south.co.uk has been giving us a little trouble, to say the least, so if that link doesn't work please try www.sevensouth.co.uk as an alternative.

I guess not all outdoor families have dogs (mine being one of these) or take them on holiday if they do have them.

It is a good point and one we discussed at some length but in the end too many bad experiences and horror stories from other people in the area who did in the past allow dogs put an end to any idea of allowing dogs, at least in the mean time. If there is enough demand then we may consider building an outdoor run and kennel in the future but as I'm sure you are aware there would be a significant cost associated with doing this well and so there would need to be some return on the investment and at the minute that potential for return just doesn't seem to be there. Many who travel to Lewis for sport fly over and so don't bring their dogs so demand from people with dogs as significantly less than from those travelling without.

Sorry about that but hopefully I have explained the thinking behind the current situation. If that situation should change then I will be sure to keep you informed

Me and the mrs are allergic to dogs for health reasons and we struggle to find accomadation in rural locations because of this and we are out doors folks. Nice to see this happening.
Caorach I shall be in touch soon about avaiability.

No problem weeman give Dollanna a call on 01851 710349 as she keeps the diary and looks after the bookings so she is head controller of availability, as a mere minion I get to do advertising. :-)

If you want any info on fishing or stalking in the area then drop me a PM. If you are into trout fishing and willing to walk then it is an ideal destination with many hundreds of lochs just sitting there waiting for you, though there are a fair number right by the road as well. One loch just about half a mile from the cottage can produce very big trout indeed and another nearby loch produces the occasional salmon and is free fishing, so you don't even need to get into your car!

If you are late booking a holiday and fancy the Outer Hebrides then, for some reason, there are still weeks available in August though July and September are pretty much full now. I've no idea why August should have proven so slow but it is the ideal chance for someone to book a late family holiday.

For reasons as yet unexplained there are still some weeks free in August so for anyone looking an ideal family holiday location, with the chance of some sport as well, it is worth giving the web site a look.
