Thread: Ruger M77 varminter

    Ruger M77 varminter

    Anyone got one of these?
I'm after a long and heavy barrel laminate varminter in .308.
Would a M77 make an acceptable alternative to a desired but unaffordable Sako?
I'm going against the Remy 700 VLS. Hearing to many niggles.
Unsure about the Howa 1500. The Ruger looks very similar but better built and finished.
A local dealer has priced a new one at just over 900. It seems a very nice rifle for that money given the alternatives.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Great rifle.

    Check out http://www.egpworld.com/RUGERVT/default.htm

where the "VT" in M77 VT stands for Very Terminal, not Varmint / Target.

I had one in 22-250 which was laser accurate out to 350 / 400 yards - but was just too heavy for what I need. I still regret selling it. Copy of three shot group below

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it, hump it or learn from it then piss on it and walk away.

    They are a great rifle.
I owned a couple and have shot about 5 more belonging to mates and every one was super accurate.

The Ruger's are far more accurate than they are given credit for. And they are very reliable. They are perhaps the very best value in a hunting rifle in my part of the world. They are an extremely good hunting rifle.

However, i am not convinced of the utility of a heavy barrel .308 especially one the weight of the M77VT, except for punching paper. And if that is your ambition, i'd probably get a T3 instead.

Just read your link. So it wasn't my imagination, that really is one of the best triggers I've sampled in a very long time.
Yep, no doubt about it, order is going in on Monday.
