Any 30-06 will fit the bill. Up to 150 gn for all species of UK Deer and 180 for most anything else elswhere.
Just change the bullets to suit the quarry.

My Spanish friends tell me you can't use a 30-06 there.
Try a 300wm instead. Bullets widely available, and its not deemed a military round so you don't have to worry about using it in France and Spain.

    Hello nemo.
I know it''s not likley to be your first choice but have a think/look at the 8/57 JS. same ballistics as the 30-06, and very good selection of heads if you reload also still popular on the continent, for Boar and RED deer. also if you look on Holts online sale catalogue , and you want a traditional rifle as Mod's are not legal over in Germany. Sometimes you will get a bargain. I got a customised / sporterised , Mauser K 98. circa 1937 , and immaculate condition for £126.00p. Also for £120.oop you can get a new barrel from Mauser in 9.3-64. Which gives you a real big hitter cheaply. Even better and more popular for big pissed of boar.

30 06 would have been the one but I was informed it was classed as a military round by some European countries

Off the shelf and without having the "Military cartridge" problems then you have 270 Win, 280 Remington, 7x64, .300 magnum of various varieties (Norma, Winchester, Remington, Weatherby, H&H), 8x68S, .338 (except Lapua).

You don't say larger than what though so it's bit difficult to help as best as one perhaps could.

Ive just gone through the same thing and have settled on a .270 due to as stated above milatery calibres are a no no in a few places

No military calibres (Old or new) may be used or transported through France. .30-06 is an old military calibre. Don't know about other countries though. Cheers.

Within the last 6 months was in Spain on a shooting trip, the party of six guns, at least two of which, myself included were using 30-06 or 308. But it may be that the regulations do not exclude foreigners from using such calibres.
