Fine for humane dispatch, get em out the net before you shoot them or you may end up knackering your net, have used them in the past but to be honest preferred my 22 pistol, firearms ticket obviously!

Many people believe it's the ideal tool for the job, but try convincing your FEO

If you are allowed one you might have to settle for a derringer, not the revolver that you've been drooling over.

A guy i know in Derby has one on his ticket , he is a part time terrier man who does a lot of digging,
the police gave him a double .410 pistol no restrictions.

A shot pistol would only become exempted from Section 5 and become Section 1 (when held on a firearm certificate) if it is .410 or 9mm Rimfire. However a .410 Revolver would remain Section 5. Only a 9mm Rimfire smoothbore revolver would qualify for the exemption and be reduced to Section 1.
When considered in the round, with the other convoluted provisions of Section 5, they render a single shot or double barrel the only realistic options.
Availability of effective weapons, at a reasonable cost is also a problem. Effective modern shot pistols are expensive and can only be obtained from an existing certificate holder or a Section 5 RFD.
The Home Office Guidance throws a further spanner in the works as it recommends licensing authorities to put a condition on, which limits the use to shooting vermin in and around buildings. Otherwise it is all simple and plain sailing.
