I use nosler 95gr b tip on 36 gr of 4895 , bench rest primers and set 10 tho off the lands and groups 1/2 to 3/4 " at 100 . Is in a 9 1/4 twist though but I have taken deer out to 400 and fox at 500 with it and it still goes where my drop chart says . Bit of a meat mangler in the wrong place but puts them on the ground when the mutt behind the butt gets it right

With a 1 in 8" twist (which is unusual) you can use bullets heavier than 100gr.
It all depends on the quarry you are shooting at.

Dustyman, vey good shooting, however, Iam staggered that you even contemplate shooting animals at the distance you quote, we are sportsmen/women, and are expected to behave with respect to our quarry species, we owe a resposibilty to them, I regret to say that our critics, who will undoubtly view our web site will pick up on your somewhat unfortunate comments

ndt man, I use a .243 rifle, Lupua case of a maximum lenght of 2.043 inches, I use a sierra 100 grain SPBT (soft point boat tail) bullet # 1560, together with 36 grains of 4064 IMR powder, this produces a muzzle velocity of around 2,750 feet per second, this combination gives me a sub 1 inch group at 100 yards

    NDT,
FWIW, I have a Krico in 243 with a sporter profile stainless Shilen match barrel 8" twist. I use Lapua cases, Winchester WLR primers, and 95 gn Nosler Silvertips. Two powders have proven satisfactory to date; Reloader 22, 42 gns, average velocity 2844fps and Vithavouri N 160, 41 gns, average velocity 2926 fps, both powders give almost identical ES and SD. Grouping is around 1" or a little less and have proven more than satisfactory for my needs. Most of my deer are taken at less than 100 yds.
