Thread: Red Kites around Dorchester ?

    Red Kites around Dorchester ?

Saw a Red Kite near Dorchester this morning. I didnt think they were in that neck of the woods.

Has anyone else seen Red Kites in Dorset. I did hear tell that they released some on the Lulworth Ranges, or maybe this is one of the birds from Andover, Newbury, Oxford direction ?

It didnt have wing tags, so maybe a wild bred one ?

Anyone got info on these ?

    Cheers

Positive I.D. in autumn 1st time south of Wincanton and about 4 weeks later in Hazelbury Bryan just north of Bulbarrow hill, N. Dorset.

I saw a couple just past Boscombe Down (heading west) on the A303 two weeks ago.

Not uncommon west of Wimborne - guy down the road was feeding them in his garden, summer last year. Nice pic.

Lakey get up ontop of Ridgeway hill and come back towards the White Horse hill on the road to Broadmayne, there's often a pair flying around there, see them quite regular whilst out stalking.

Cheers for the replies. I knew the accumulated wisdom of the SD could help out. I had no idea there were so many about in Dorset. I will have to go and find more now!
