"Only the deer's skeleton remained, suggesting it had been caught in the snare some time ago."

    These guys are clever.

legal snaring is an essential tool of the gamekeeper but this time of year extra care should be exercised on ground that has deer on it due to fawns/kids being born and the risk of these getting caught is quite high i think ,illegal snares are still used by some unscrupulous individuals they need to be named and shamed unfortunantly brings the rest of us into disrepute. always going to be a grey area snaring, education wont give idiots a conscience

I wonder whether this was really a snare, or simply a piece of misidentified fencing wire?

Aye, That looks like a typical big cat kill. The local big cat watch group must of sett the snare to help feed the local big cat population.

Highlights the need for a snare ban?, yet it was caught in an illegal snare that would still have been set even if legal snares were banned!!

Spca putting 2 and 2 together and comming up with 493 and a 1/2 as usual!
