Guys looking for some advise! I have been unable to find a 7mm 08 rifle of my fancy! I am now thinking of the custom build route!
I might have found a m595 with delux wood in .243, i would like to have this re barreld in 7 08 and may be have a litte bit of fancy engraving done!
who and where should i look? how much should i set aside!
    Thanks for looking Will

5-600 for re-barrel and proof. Engraving, totally dependent on what you want, as an example gold filled lettering cost 15 a character.

Whom would be the go to man Danp? Not so much gold inlay just a little scroll work etc!

For rebarrel work, take your pick, Dave Wylde,Andy massingham, chris blackburn, Neil Mckillop, mike Norris, callum ferguson, I would be happy to do it also. For engraving I'd speak to a traditional shotgun or rifle builder such as Ron Wharton or Alan wet, and see who they work with.

Can tell you now all those guys in that list will charge more then 500 to 600 for a rebarrel. I would say look closer to 750 to 850 fully fitted and proofed

Last time I asked mr Ferguson it was 1000 pound!

Neil McKillop won't. His work is top notch and very well priced. Give him a call.

Norman Clark also charges in the 600-1000 region. He quoted 800 to fit and chamber a barrel that I supplied.

I suggest you contact Lother Walther and get a quote from them.

For a basic rebarrel post #2 isnt far from what it would be I think.

Warms the cockles being considered alongside the likes of such esteemed company.

I know nothing about gunsmithing but is it not possible to bore a .243 barrel out to a 7-08 ? I read somewhere that worn 6.5x55SE rifles were used by Lapua to make the 7x54 Finnish . Probably wrong but if not why not ?
