    bedding, 1st base

chaps, do you pillar or glass bed first, or both at same time, and why?

For gods sake PKL, the title made me think we were going to start comparing notes from high school....

i do mine at the same time

If the stock is already inletted i will epoxy the pillars in place first so that they are touching the action, this then means the action and barrel sit at the same depth they did before and alleviates any problems with feeding etc. then i remove material (wood/filler) to allow room for the Devcon all around. Bed it, then recess the tops of the pillars afterwards so the rifle is pulling down into the bedding not just sitting on the pillars.

Both at same time, the only way to gurantee stress free bedding as the stock isnt stressed or under any tension while the bedding compound is curing.

The only way I do it.

how do you keep the action/barrel in situ when doing both?

the only thing that touches the stock is a small portion of the rear tang amd the tape round the barrel to set the height and keep it centred
never had a stressed out bedding doing it this way

How do you hold the action in place or is it just gravity?
