In my Swede, I've been using Varget for the lighter bullets and IMR 4831 for 142gr Sierra's

It will shoot .25 MOA groups at 100yds with the Varget and a variety of bullets up to 139gr. The IMR 4831 is pushing the 142gr Sierra's out at 2705fps (Average) and does 1000 yards without too much effort.

I'm interested in this as at the weekend I picked up my 6.5x55 and yesterday some 120gn ballistic tip. I have some N150 and Varget and wondered if anyone had some successful loads using these.

Thanks. Andy

I use Vectan Tubal 3000 behind 129gr SSTs.

The first shot from a cold barrel is always spot on.

Groups are sub 1/2".

I use RE 19 and have developed several loads from 120g speer, 129g hornaday, 125g nosler all good but the best yet are the Barnes 120g TSX BT Wow!
All 6.5x55 out of a styer 20" Best of luck you have a good caliber.

I use N160 with 140gr Amax and 120gr nosler hunting tips. Works really well. Have also tried Hodgeden SC which is good for hunting loads. Doesn't quite have the lasting power if you want to do long ranges.

I've given up thinking about it. Get Vit n140 branded up as TRG140 and work up a load. At £55/kilo from ITL that my kind of burn rate.

Mike.. how much IMR4831 are you using and what are your final cartridge dimentions?

Cheers

Paul,

I am pushing the 142gr SMK's using IMR 4831 @ 43.5gr - 44.5gr. My OAL in 3.050"

The 43.5gr works nice in my Tikka T3 varmint - the 44.5gr does not show any signs of pressure but the groups at 1000 are not as good as the 43.5gr groups. There is no discernible difference in groups between 100-600yds

Thanks guys

N160. With 120 nosler is what I have thoughts on, I use 120 grn bt Norma factory load and my sako loves em, have the speers manual, anyone recommend any others for 6.5 x 55 and
later poss .308 for loading data

Thanks to all

Phil

I am enjoying IMR 7828SSC with 120 grain bullets. Twenty-nine hundred feet per second and some of the finest accuracy I've had in a 6.5 bore.~Muir

I use VV N-160 for 120gr to 140gr bullets with outstanding accuracy. Have others but cannot better the N-160.

Regards, Simon
