Thread: Purchasing Bullet Heads

    Purchasing Bullet Heads

Have been investigating reloading my own ammo.

I was under the impression that the purchase of bullet heads were recorded onto your FAC. However I have found a site that allows the purchase of bullet heads(excluding Grom) without a FAC

My question is when it comes to renewal of FAC how do police know the volume of rifle use if bullet heads are not recorded?

    Thanks

FMJ do not need recording, apparently expanding do need recording. However, just because they are recorded does not mean you have used them, so all a bit of a strange exercise in reality.

S5 bullets have not been recorded on my FAC anywhere I've bought them.

I don't think the police actually have a need in law to know the extent to which your rifles are used. They just need to know that you ongingly have a 'good reason to possess' them.

The fact that you're using them might help support the existence of a 'good reason', but it certainly isn't the main thing, I'd have thought.

No need to record the purchase of bullets on your FAC

Mine has not had a single round recorded on it for about ten years

My Police Force insist that all purchases of bullets go on my FAC, i presumed that this was the norm.

I have bought expanding bullets in the following counties, all have been entered on to my FAC at point of sale (and not at my request).
Essex, Kent, West Sussex, Cambridgeshire, Shropshire, Oxfordshire, Devon, Somerset, Hampshire and London.
    Essex even entered non expanding

As far as I know, only expanding bullets and live ammunition are recorderd onto FAC's. But, not necessarily required to do so for expanding bullets, by all constabularys. Some insist dealers record expanding bullet purchases, others do not. The ones that don't record onto FAC's, simply require a showing of the certificate to ensure the variation to acquire expanding bullets is in place.
Hey ho, how to complicate the simple matter of buying bullets eh! Cheers.

Home Office Guidelines, para 3.17 discussing expanding ammunition says:

"Category (xv) extends the prohibitionon the various types of prohibited
ammunition to the actual bullet or missile
itself, not just the complete round of
ammunition (a complete round consists of
the bullet, the cartridge case, the propellant
and the primer). Certain categories of shooter
such as deerstalkers and vermin controllers
are exempt from the requirement to obtain
the authority of the Secretary of State to
    possess expanding ammunition (see Chapter
    4) and will have the appropriate condition
entered on their certificate (see Appendix 3).
There is no need for the bullets to be listed
separately on the certificate, other than in the
    circumstances described below...."

    Later in the same section:
"...It is notnecessary for the dealer making the sale to
record transactions of expanding bullets on
the certificate but the sale should be recorded
    in the dealer’s register."

I think confusion might arise because of peoples' use of 'head', when they actually mean 'bullet'. The bullet is the actual projectile. The head's the pink fleshy thing that pokes out of your shirt.

To add further confusion my (Bedfordshire) FAC showns "ammunition" and "Expanding missiles" as separate items under both hold and buy quantities for each of the calibes I own.

Also, whenever I have purchased bullets in the UK (in several Counties) they have been noted on my FAC by the sellers. Mostly I buy my bullets in the US where they don't get added so I keep receipts to show usage.

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it, hump it or learn from it then piss on it and walk away.

One hymn sheet would be nice?
My Hampshire FAC shows the same thing, it is not entirely clear from the certificate whether the "Expanding Missiles" quantity is in included within the overall total of what may possessed or whether this is a separate quantity in addition to the non-expanding, although I have always acted as if it were the lesser quantity.atb Tim
