    calibre change

Hi all, i am posting on behalf of a friend who isn't on here.... (tsk tsk)

My friend has a .270 for his deer shooting duties, and is looking for a change.
    I suggested 25-06, 30-06, .308, 300WSM but 'wants' something different.

Its for forestry and hillside work in scotland.

    Tuppence worth required!!

there's no point, they're almost all the same ballistically and all shoot almost the same range of bullet weights. sometimes no change is a good change...

Try 7x57mm Mauser - as old as the hills and becoming more 'different' as time goes on!

ballistics also follow the curve of the rolling hills..only kidding, just saying that it's not quite as flat as the .270, so for a hill rifle not an 'improvement' perhaps.

    6.5x55 - that should provoke a response!

I would have thought a .270 was ideal for hill work, although a 7mm-08 should give it a pretty good run for its money.
