Thread: what sticks do you use and why

what sticks do you use and why

which sticks do you use and why, not brand, but number of legs. Also, please feel free to comment on the distance (max) you feel comfortable taking deer with them.

Well, I am somewhat biased, but quads all the time now and I've shot foxes out to 300yds with them. They can be used as a single, double or quad.

Doubles for me, suit my needs at the minute.
Would feel comfortable for deer to 100yds, 60-70yds being the furthest I have had one but have had fox at 170-180m putting the bullet where I wanted it. Maybe I'm slightly less concerned about clipping foxes than i would be the Deer.

Ditto, with a fox shot at 250 yds. Regards JCS

ive tryed the quad style sticks and yhes they are very steady but i just find them a little too slow to deploy

Use quads out to 100m, find them slow and awkward to use if needed in a rush. No use what so ever if trying to take a shot on a steep downhill slope

I use split sticks (double legs) confident to 100ish yd chest shots on deer , find them quicker to set up than quads.
Like the look of the primos tripod trigger sticks though. DF

Quad. 200m otherwise I get in closer.

Pair of garden canes, and these enable me to shoot out to a little over 100m with confidence. I'd say that close to 100% of my shots are taken standing off sticks.
You can't say muntjac without saying, Mmmmmm.

Twin sticks, my off hand shooting is barely adequate for close shots and like most people a bit of front end stability dramatically improves accuracy. Quads and tripods seem to be too fiddly to set up, especially if you only use one hand. atb Tim
